A few years ago, the digital nation of Lunacia embarked on a landmark journey to become a community-owned ecosystem. This mission was driven by a process of progressive decentralization, via a deliberate, phased approach designed to place the power and responsibility for Axie Infinity into the hands of our dedicated community.
Today, we are thrilled to announce that we are entering the next major phase of this journey. Key community leaders have worked closely alongside Sky Mavis to lay the final groundwork for a robust governance system. It’s time to activate our collective voice and begin making key decisions together!
To support a truly decentralized ecosystem, we are in the process of establishing the Axie Infinity Foundation, an independent, non-profit entity tasked with stewarding the growth of our digital nation.
The Foundation will act as a trustee and fiduciary, bound by the decisions made through Axie’s on-chain governance. Its primary responsibility is to execute the will of the community, deploying Community Treasury assets only as directed by your votes.
Sky Mavis will capitalize the Foundation with assets from the Ecosystem Fund to cover at least two years of operational expenses. A separate grant pool from the Ecosystem Fund will also help kickstart community initiatives. Resource deployment will be based on community votes.
We are currently exploring the best legal structure for the Foundation, with strong focus on Decentralized Unincorporated Non-profit Associations (DUNA). This groundbreaking framework is designed specifically for DAOs like ours, allowing us to establish a legal entity in the US. This enables the community to enter contracts, hold assets, and open bank accounts, all while offering liability protection to participants and preserving our decentralized, on-chain governance model.

This foundational document, developed by the community, serves as the governance framework for the Axie Infinity Digital Nation. Think of it as the basic rule set for Lunacia. It defines the roles and responsibilities of all participants, outlines how leadership should behave, and describes how power is shared. We believe that the most impactful decisions should be guided by those who actively contribute to our ecosystem. The Axie Score is your “Axie resume,” a point system that reflects your contributions across gameplay, community participation, asset ownership, and more. It ensures that voting power is weighted towards those who have consistently added value to our digital nation. A community-based council continues to oversee the evolution of the Axie Score, refining it with new badges and feedback from all of you.
The Axie Infinity Community Treasury is a decentralized fund that collects revenue from in-game and marketplace activities. It is our community-owned resource pool, and its use is in our hands.
As of July 2025, the Treasury contains approximately: 23,000,000 AXS, 2,600 ETH. 75,000 RON. and 6,500 USDC. In addition, we anticipate the recovery of ~6.0M USDC and considerable additional assets (~40.0M) from the Ronin chain hack, which will be added to the Treasury over time. The evolving legal landscape for DAOs has presented challenges that at times placed projects and their participants at unwitting risk. To protect our community and the Treasury, we proactively engaged a third-party legal firm to conduct a comprehensive review of our governance process. The findings affirmed that our governance process is strongly decentralized, well-documented, and structured to withstand legal scrutiny. This expert validation, combined with the DUNA legal structure, gives us strong confidence that our approach minimizes risk for all participants, and gives us collective confidence to proceed.
In fact, we believe that the governance process has reached the stage of maturity to where the community is able to start accessing the Axie Treasury! So let’s start coming to consensus on the kinds of investments and activities we should do together to grow Lunacia!
From its inception, Axie Infinity was built on the idea that players deserve a real stake in the universes they help create. That vision is now a reality. We’ve heard a number of great ideas around initial activities for the Community Treasury. Which of these interest you the most?
