When Uche started his crypto journey, it wasn’t after long research or a big plan. It was because he didn’t want to be the only broke guy in his circle.
“It was 2021. Everywhere I looked, crypto was pumping. My guys were cashing out left and right. One of them even changed his car. I had serious FOMO,” he says. “So I just said, abeg, let me try my luck. I put in $400.”
That one impulsive step was the start of wins, heartbreaks, and some costly lessons.
The Good, the Bad, and the ‘Omo’ Moments / Lessons
Like most beginners, Uche got a taste of both sides very quickly. His worst loss came from chasing hype.
“There’s this guy in my group chat that always drops the ‘hot coins’ to buy. The rest of us usually just say ‘yes sir’ and put in what we can spare. Sometimes people get greedy, but I’ve learned to do my own research too.”
Still, one day the hype got him.
“I bought this meme token thinking it would be the next Shiba Inu. I remember that day like it was yesterday — omo, I nearly fainted. My girlfriend at the time was staying over. She’d been asking me for this wig and I told myself I’d buy it for her from the gains. The coin didn’t even last a week before the developers dumped it. My $1,500 turned to zero. For two days, I couldn’t even talk. She just thought I was moody. Meanwhile, I was grieving in silence.”
He laughs about it now, but it taught him something important: don’t dump all your money into a coin just because it’s trending. He also made the classic rookie mistake: putting all his eggs in a few baskets.
“When Bitcoin crashed in May 2022, it dragged down my whole portfolio because I hadn’t diversified properly. Now I spread my money across different coins.”

“These days, I stick with Ethereum (ETH), Solana (SOL), and Binance Coin (BNB) because they are more stable and have strong projects behind them. For example, the last time Solana hit a new all-time high, I made about ₦2 million.”

It wasn’t quick money. It took a while, but it proved to him that patience and better choices can pay off in crypto.
Pick coins with good fundamentals and try not to panic-sell every dip.
How does he stay updated?
Uche’s crypto news comes from everywhere: Twitter, Telegram, and, of course, the WhatsApp group chat with his friends. “My guys”, as he calls them.“Sometimes that’s where the best tips drop. But even then, I always check things for myself first.”
His advice
“The future of money is decentralized. Don’t be left behind,” he says. “But also, don’t think you’ll turn ₦50k into ₦50 million overnight. Crypto is sweet, but it can also humble you.”
And if he could describe crypto in one word, it would be: unstable.
