Seven years ago, we set out to build a digital nation. It all started with a game, but our vision was much larger: we wanted players to be OWNERS of the assets they held and the worlds they built. Ownership means having the power to shape the destiny of something — or at least to have a say in what happens to it. Fast-forward to 2025, and the time has come to talk about what ownership of Lunacia means for YOU. Here’s why Axie Scores matter to every Lunacian:
Lunacia is about more than Axie games: it’s a community of real people around the world. It has a multimillion $AXS Community Treasury. It’s the backdrop of a brand with iconic lore, collectibles, and more. Above all, Lunacia belongs to its people.
The question is: How do we put the people in charge?
The Axie Score is a big part of the answer. It measures community members’ contributions to our nation, and will give every Lunacian a voice with which to shape our collective destiny. Think of it like this: Higher Axie Score → More ownership → Larger influence in Lunacia’s future. Today, the Axie Score committee gave the green light to release updated formulas to calculate YOUR Axie Score. Here’s where it comes from:
Your Axie Score comes from the points you earn in four contribution categories: axie NFT holdings, treasury contributions, community contributions, and in-game performance. You can learn more about them here.
These calculations continue to be a work in progress, and will continue to improve over time! For example, today’s release builds upon and re-adjusts last year’s. The idea is to create new use cases, test them, and refine the Axie Score over time.
The Axie Score committee — made up of select community Contributors and representatives of Sky Mavis — designed these formulas and will continue to improve them with your input. Sky Mavis engineers only play a supporting role by shipping them to App.axie. That means these calculations are for Lunacians, by Lunacians.
This is what keeps the Axie Score committee up at night. Today, your Axie Score determines your Voting Power during the governance process — and that’s about the only thing it can do. However, here are some possible benefits in discussion:

Exclusive in-game buffs or rewards
Lunacian badges are essential to Axie Scores. They shine a spotlight on meaningful contributions – and recognize everyone who achieved them. For example, you must have voted in AIP-0001 to get the new First Voter Badge. Once you earn the badge, its points get added to your Axie Score.
We introduced Lunacian Badges in 2023, and the first Axie Score release came out in 2024. As a result, many of these early badges had to play catch up. For example, the first badges had fixed values that were hard to fit into later years’ Axie Score formulas. Good news: Today’s release fixes this.
Badges are now compatible with the four Axie Score pillars. The Axie Score Committee is also responsible for 100% of badge points and calculations! Sky Mavis can design and produce badges, but only Lunacian Contributors can determine their value to Axie Scores.

Each Axie Score tells a story of a Lunacian’s commitment to our movement. That’s why we’ve assigned designations to various Axie Score brackets. For example, everyone with an Axie Score of 1 or higher will receive the “Lunacian” designation. However, only a few will be deemed Mythseekers!
These designations are a fun way to express how much a community member has contributed as a percentage of our entire nation. They also lay a foundation for more possible features down the line.

Q: I disagree with the formula or weighting of the Axie Scores. How can I change them in the next version?

Q: If axie NFT holdings count towards an Axie Score, couldn’t a whale just “buy their way in” to a high Axie Score and influence Lunacia’s destiny?
Ownership of axie assets is a legitimate sign of commitment to our digital nation. However, it’s not the only one. Even if someone maxed out their points in the Axie NFT Holdings category, they would only have 40M out of 100M possible points. In this way, the category weightings prevent one particular Lunacian archetype to exercise outsized influence over others.
Q: How does the Axie Score relate to the Axie Treasury?
The Axie Treasury belongs to Lunacians. It does not belong to Sky Mavis or the Axie Infinity brand! However, there is currently no mechanism for community members to make use of these funds. The Axie Score provides a starting framework to identify committed community members who are most likely to have our digital nation’s best interests in mind. In theory, Lunacians with higher Axie Scores will be able to influence treasury spending more than Lunacians with lower Axie Scores.
